Burger King is a fast food chain that has built its reputation on the simple principle of serving tasty beef burgers.

Its signature creations, including the Whopper, Bacon Double Cheese Burger and Big King all rely on succulent cuts for their trademark taste.

However, hungry customers at the firm's Uttoxeter branch were today left "bemoosed" after being told they could not be served beef.

Staff said a top burner at the Derby Road branch broke down last night, August 7, and has not been working all day.

This has meant around two thirds of Burger King's coveted burgers, also including the Fiery Barbecue Double XL and the Smokey BBQ Angus, have been off the menu.

Customer Libby Hill said: "My son, 14-year-old George, was desperate for a Whopper for his lunch today.

"When we turned up, we were shocked when they told us he couldn't have one. They just said it was for 'technical reasons'.

"I wondered if it was something really serious, but it's turned out just to be a faulty grill.

"He was gutted and had to go for a Greggs instead, which just wasn't the same."

A total of 18 of the 28 burgers advertised on the Burger King website are beef burgers.

However, customers have still been able to munch on tasty alternatives including the Bacon Cheese Chicken Royale and King Fish.

Workers confirmed workmen are currently on site and the faulty equipment should be back up and running very shortly.

We are still waiting on the national Burger King press office to issue a statement.
