The best fish and chips in Burton and South Derbyshire has been revealed - Wetmore Road Fish Bar came out on top with Mail readers voting in their dozens.

The bar, owned by George Andreou, has been a popular destination for Burtonians since it opened in 2009. He has help from staff members and his 11-year-old son Klimis comes in to help on evenings and weekends.

Chris Smith and Richard Stevenson live in Rotherham but are working nearby at Cotton Croft and said they had been to the chip shop four times already.

Chris said: "When we asked people where we should go, everyone said to try Wetmore Road.

"We've asked so many people and every single person said to try here – so we thought it must be good!"

Locals have branded Mr Andreou the 'Lionel Messi of Fish and Chips', seemingly because of the secret ingredient added to the batter than makes it the most popular in Burton.

He said: "We are grateful for the recognition from the people of Burton for voting us the best fish and chip shop, this is the second time now and we're grateful.

"We would like everyone who hasn't come to try us, to come and give us a go. Our master chef (Klimis) can cook anything you like!"

The bar offers gluten-free fish and chips for an hour Monday to Saturday, making it a popular choice for people across the area.

Mrs Constantinou said: "We are very pleased and very proud. We're very happy to continue to serve the community, and anyone who wants to visit us."
