Neil Morrissey's top chef says his famous Morrissey Blonde steak and ale pie is the pick of the dishes on the new Bramshall Inn menu.

Executive chef director Bruce Mackie says the butter puff pastry pie, braised in the Morrissey Brewing Company beer overnight, has "real identity".

He spoke to the Uttoxeter Advertiser at a special VIP event on Wednesday, June 27 after the former Men Behaving Badly actor's firm took over the Stone Road pub.

Bruce said: "We're replicating what we do at the Plume of Feathers (the Barlaston pub run by the With Neil Morrissey Pub Company).

"We've had two years of practice there and have made it a real success.

"A big part of my role will be bringing young guys through who are learning the trade.

"We're not a gastro-pub - we do good, honest food cooked with a bit of care and passion.

"There'll be all the touches restaurant chefs would put in, but in a pub.

"The main rule is that everything we do is home-made and fresh - there's absolutely nothing frozen.

"The pies are made to order, which can take 20 minutes or so, but we don't compromise on that and feel it's worth the wait.

"Another dish I don't think you'll find better anywhere else is our rogan josh - it really packs a punch. We do a great fish and chips too."

Bruce also highlighted the pub's policy to keep all its dishes affordable, with a typical three-course meal costing about £24.

He said: "We do a great 10oz rump steak, which is a beautiful Hereford Red cut of beef.

"We could do a fillet, but we'd have to charge £28 for it, so we prefer to do the rump to keep the price affordable.

"It might only be rump, but it's literally the best cut we can possibly buy."

Bruce calls his stand-out dessert "chocolate rehab."

It consists of flour-less chocolate cake with a chocolate panna cota, chocolate fudge ice cream and a berry compote.

Blonde ale Morrissey Blonde and bitter Morrissey OBI - which stands for Old Bramshall Inn - take centre-stage at the bar.

Amber ales Doom Bar and Bass, which are brewed in Burton, sit alongside Stoke-based Titanic's Plum Porter ale and Bakewell-based Thornbridge Brewery's Jaipur IPA.

Lager-lovers can enjoy Heineken, Carling or Estrella, while cider buffs have a choice of Orchard Thieves and Symonds Scrumpy Jack.

Meanwhile, fans of stout will be pleased to be able to order a pint of Guinness.
