Everyone's favourite secret agent James Bond will be the theme of a Proms music event this weekend. Memorable music associated with 007 will feature in the Last Night of the Proms event to be held at Rosliston Forestry Centre, near Swadlincote on Saturday, September 2.

At the event Newhall Brass Band using its licence to thrill by playing plenty of the well-loved music from the hit spy films, as well as all the traditional proms favourites.

Adding to the fun of the programme, the band will also include a spoof based on the popular BBC TV war sitcom 'Allo! 'Allo! The music set is an award-winning one that organisers hope will be a hit with audiences, said a spokesman.

After the interval, a Beatles tribute act will be performing a set to mark the 50th anniversary of the Sgt Pepper album before the evening closes with traditional Proms music.

Chairman of South Derbyshire District Council, Councillor Michael Stanton, said: "The Last Night of the Proms is always an evening of great music, fun and enjoyment and this year promises to be the best yet. We are looking forward to a wonderful production, delivering thrills and excitement as good as any spy movie."

Although Newhall Brass Band will not take to the stage at the Glade in the Forest venue at the centre until 7pm, gates at the Rosliston Forestry Centre arena are due to open at 5.30pm, allowing guests to set up their chairs, arrange their rugs and start to enjoy their picnics.

Food will not be available at the event but a licenced bar will be open to serve hot and cold drinks. Bow ties are optional but the show is outdoors so people are reminded to dress for the weather.

The event will help raise funds for the chairman of the council's chosen charity, the Derbyshire and Leicestershire Rutland Air Ambulance. Donations to the charity will be encouraged and accepted at the event.

Tickets cost £5 for adults, £2.50 for children/concessions and a family ticket is just £12. For further details and to buy tickets call Swadlincote Tourist Information Centre on 01283 222848.
