A PE teacher from a Swadlincote secondary school has hit the airwaves in support of the emergency men and women involved in the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

Pingle Academy teacher, Hayley Waddell, was so moved by the recent Grenfell Tower tragedy in which at least 79 people died, that, along with the rest of her choir, she has released a song to raise funds for the emergency services who risked their lives to save others.

Grenfell Tower, a block of flats in London, was destroyed last month in a major fire accidentally started by a faulty fridge-freezer.

Ms Waddell, who is part of the 300-strong All Women Choir based in Stoke-on-Trent, told The Burton Mail: “The giant sized Staffordshire choir ‘All Women’ of which I have been a member for the past six years is hoping to raise money for the emergency services with our downloadable single, There’s a Hero.

“We wanted to recognise the work of the emergency services staff over the past few weeks during so many terrible incidents, and so we have recorded one of our favourite songs in their honour.

"The song talks about there being a hero in everybody’s heart and how we can all find strength though will and determination.

“Our choir has raised more than £5,000 for numerous charities over the last few years and we really wanted to use our love for singing to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity and TASC, the Ambulance Staff Charity.

“There’s a Hero was live on Radio Stoke last week and since then our Facebook page has seen in excess of 20,000 views.

"It would be lovely to think that our local singing ladies can show support and appreciation for the overwhelming work and heroic job that our service men and women do and that plenty of appreciative listeners download our song.”

The single can be purchased for 79p on ITunes and Spotify with all proceeds going to the charities. More details about the choir is available here.
