A very special music event will be held at Burton Town Hall in August to support local cancer sufferer Lizzie Brown.

The show, ‘A Song for Lizzie’, will be held on Thursday, August 31 and will feature music from all genres, guaranteeing something that will fit everyone’s tastes.

Lizzie, 27, who works at de Ferrers Academy, recently married the love of her life, Rob Brown, one year before planned, after she was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. The couple hoped for the best, but the diagnosis came too late and the cancer had already spread to Lizzie’s ribs, spine, lymph nodes and pancreas.

The event has been organised by Andy Simpson, who directs COSAM Entertainment; several artists are donating their time to raise money for a good cause.

Lizzie and Rob got married earlier this year after bringing their wedding forward following the diagnosis

He said: “All we are doing is helping Lizzie and Rob try to enjoy a better quality of life that we all take for granted. The money raised will be used to help them, Macmillan Cancer Support and create more awareness of this terrible disease.”

Lizzie is a good friend of Andy’s daughter and when he found out about her diagnosis, he was determined to do something to help the couple.

Andy added: “I wanted to do an event for the Grenfell Tower victims, but Simon Cowell made that single which raised thousands and thousands of pounds.

“We went to see Lizzie and Rob a few days after and I decided there and then that I wanted to do a benefit concert for them.

“They’re such good, kind people and I am able to do something to help, so that is what I’m going to do.”

The young couple were recently gifted almost £4,000 from friends and members of the community to pay for their wedding after a fund-raising page was set up online by friend Emma Guttis. The funds also went towards an unforgettable Mediterranean cruise for the couple’s honeymoon.

At the event will be Kings of Leon tribute band Four Kicks, Rose Devine, Dave Skyers and Ellie Goulding tribute Chelsea Jade. The money raised from the show will go to directly to Lizzie and Macmillan Cancer Support.

There could also be a few famous faces from TV and sport making surprise appearances at the event.

Tickets to the variety music show are priced at £15 and can be bought from the Brewhouse box office or from Andy Simpson at COSAM Entertainment by calling 01283 260020 or online at Eventbrite.
