A Swadlincote menswear store has vowed to help any bridegrooms who might be left without suits for their wedding day due to clothing store Greenwoods going into administration.

Staff at Jon Paul Menswear say they have been inundated with calls from couples worried about their wedding suits after the announcement by Greenwoods.

Menswear and suit hire firm Greenwoods went into administration on September 6, but stores remain open up and down the country, including the Burton store based in The Octagon shopping centre.

Staff at the Burton store have told the Burton Mail they are unable to comment further on the situation.

Jon Paul Menswear have stores in Swadlincote, Derby and Rugeley

Accountancy firm Deloitte has been appointed as the administrator for Greenwoods, and has been made aware of issues with customers getting a suit ready for their big day, it says.

A spokesman said: "The third party that provides the wedding hire service to Greenwoods has now terminated its supply agreement. Greenwoods does not own the wedding garments hired to customers. These are owned and supplied to Greenwoods by a third party.

"The administrators have been informed by the third party that it will no longer supply Greenwoods. However, we understand that the supplier has been contacting customers regarding completion of any unfulfilled Greenwoods orders."

Owner of Jon Paul, Jon Burnton, said: "We've had lots of phone calls from brides and grooms worried about their upcoming weddings. They've told us that they can't hire the suits they've booked, and they're panicking.

"If anybody has been left in the lurch because of Greenwoods going into administration, I would encourage them to get in touch with us."

Greenwoods has been on Britain's high streets since 1860

Jon Paul Menswear has three stores in Swadlincote, Derby and Rugeley, with Swadlincote being the headquarters. The family-run business was established in 1971.

Mr Burnton said: "We will do whatever we can to help. We've been in this trade for 46 years, so we know how important things like this are for couples ready to tie the knot."

Meanwhile, staff at Bridgens Menswear, in Burton, say they are currently busy, as they usually are at this time of year. However, bosses have said that they have not had anyone come to them saying they had hired suits from Greenwoods.
