Villagers in an East Staffordshire village are getting together to hold an American-style yard sale in a bid to raise vital funds for charity. People living in Alrewas will be holding the car boot-style sale, without the car and boot of course, from 11am to 3pm on Sunday, September 24, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

In total, 27 households have signed up to take part by pledging £10 for their address to go on a village map to let buyers know where they are.

Many of the villagers have also volunteered to donate a percentage of their takings to the charity too.

Buyers can purchase a map on the day for £1 with addresses of the stalls. There will also be a tombola with a top prize of a weekend in Scarborough as well as cake and refreshment stalls.

Julia Chrishop, a Macmillan registered volunteer who has helped organise the event, said: "We are hoping for a good turn out and no rain. There'll be plenty of balloons, bunting and bargains to be had. The George and Dragon has agreed to provide refreshments."
