Uttoxeter's high street will be awash with Bhangra dancers as charities, public servants and volunteers come together for a special day in the town's calendar.

Uttoxeter Together Day, run by the Uttoxeter Networking Forum, will take place from 10am to 2pm on Saturday, June 16, outside the town hall.

Last year's free family-friendly event attracted more than 500 visitors - and organisers are hoping for a similar turnout this time round.

A spokesman for the event said: "It is free to attend and everyone of all ages is welcome. The day will again showcase over 20 local voluntary organisations, with games, activities and great value family refreshments from the Tesco Community Team.

"There will also be free entertainment throughout the day, including face painting, tips on how to look fabulous from makeup artist EstherMarie - worldwide winner of the most popular wedding makeup artist back in 2014.

BhangraBlaze will be demonstrating their exciting Bhangra-inspired workouts - audience participation welcome - and the Royal Signals are planning a surprise for the day."

Already confirmed to attend are Careline, which provides a telephone befriending service to stop the elderly becoming isolated; health and social support centre Uttoxeter Cares; charitable group Uttoxeter Knights; the Uttoxeter Area of Parishes church group; Heath Big Local, which is allocating £1 million in lottery funding to worthy causes in the town; and military charity the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).

About the Uttoxeter Networking Forum

The Forum was launched in 2016 by Michelle Vodden, of Uttoxeter Cares, and Jo Bradley, of Careline, in response to the "difficult economic environment in which the local voluntary sector found itself operating."

The group meets quarterly, is free to attend and open to anyone involved in a charity, club or organisation which supports Uttoxeter and the surrounding area.

It started out as a small group which met at the Uttoxeter Cares centre, in Holly Road, but has since moved to the Heath Community Centre after outgrowing its initial home, with 50 member groups signed up.

Organisations that have been involved include Scropton Riding for the Disabled, Uttoxeter Rotary, Mind, Support Staffordshire, the Prince’s Trust, the Alzheimer’s Society, Youth Emotional Support Services (YESS) and the Pyramid Autism Group.

Ms Bradley said: "The aim of the Uttoxeter Networking Forum is to give local groups the opportunity to meet other like-minded organisations, to make connections, share learning and experiences and to look at ways to work together to address the issues that face the community.

"It is a proactive and practical group of people looking not only to help to make life better for those needing support, but also to celebrate all of the great voluntary organisations working in and around the town.

"The idea for the Uttoxeter Together Day was developed during a meeting early last year, when the Forum discussed ways to improve local awareness of the services and volunteering roles available to them. The event was a big success and one which the group agreed unanimously to repeat this summer."
