Are you a clever clogs? Do you love quizzing and have Eggheads, The Chase and Tipping Point on series link so you don't miss an episode? Then you are going to just love this.

Most people would love to know their IQ but few have actually taken the test as it takes time and effort and there is too much TV to catch up on to do this.

However, we have come to the rescue with the world's shortest IQ test with just three questions and they can be answered at the click of a mous.

Watch out though, if you do whizz through them you will more than likely get at least one wrong. The Cognitive Reflection Test consists of just three questions and evaluates how accurately you can answer a question which is in fact harder than it first appears, the Burton Mail's sister title, the Mirror reports.

And, apparently, the quicker you do this, the more intelligent you appear to be.

So, no pressure then.

Question 1

A bat and a ball cost £1.10 in total. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost?

How much does the ball cost?

The odds are you answered 10p for this question - that's what we thought at first. This, however, is the WRONG answer.

If the ball costs X, and the bat costs £1 more, then it can be worked out like this:

X+£1

Therefore

Bat+ball=X + (X+1) =1.1

Thus

2X+1=1.1, and 2X=0.1

X= 0.05

Or put simply: '£1 is NOT £1 more than 10p. £1.05p, however, IS £1 more than 5p'

Question 2

If it takes five machines five minutes to make five widgets, how long would it take 100 machines to make 100 widgets?

Did you guess the right number of widgets?

It's tempting, if answering these quickly, to guess 100 minutes.

But this isn't the right answer.

Instead, if five machines can make five widgets in five minutes then one machine will make one widget in five minutes too.

Therefore if we have 100 machines all making widgets, they can make 100 widgets in five minutes.

Likewise, seven machines will make seven widgets in five minutes, and 23,633,807 machines will make 23,633,807 in five minutes.

Simples.

Question 3

In a lake, there is a patch of lily pads. Every day, the patch doubles in size.

If it takes 48 days for the patch to cover the entire lake, how long would it take for the patch to cover half of the lake?

Did you get caught out with this question?

While many people might have answered 24 days, the answer goes as follows.

If the patch doubles in size each day going forward, it would halve in size going backwards. So on day 47, the lake is half full.

Of course, given the absence of verbal reasoning or any real variety of question, it's not the most accurate test.

So don't feel too bad if you didn't get a single one right.
