Sun seekers are in for a treat next year as Jet2.com and Jet2holidays has announced an extra summer holiday destination from East Midlands Airport.

From May next year the firm will operate a weekly service to the Bourgas, in Bulgaria, offering great value for money as well as miles of golden sands along the Black Sea.

What's more, with a range of two to five star hotels on sale, holidaymakers can soak up the Balkan sun in resorts such as Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Obzor and St Vlas.

The weekly service to and from the resort will start from £69 one way from EMA to Bourgas, and holidays from £319 per person, including a 22kg luggage allowance and return transfers.

And almost 8,000 seats will be up for sale in the first year of operation.

To make the announcement, the airline called on Stanislav Yevetski, a Bulgarian actor best known for his role as Victor Krum in Harry Potter, to champion the launch both here and in his home country.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: "The fantastic brand new destination of Bourgas in Bulgaria gives holidaymakers even more choice with our award-winning airline and package holiday business.

"The addition of flights to Bourgas means we will operate to Bulgaria for the first time, and with resorts such as Sunny Beach on sale, we are expecting it be hugely popular with local holidaymakers."

Heidi Barlow, East Midlands Airport's head of marketing, said: "Jet2.com's new route from EMA to Bourgas provides passengers from across the East Midlands and further afield yet more choice.

"With brand new routes and a wider selection of flights, summer 2019 is already shaping up to be a great year."

Nessebar, on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria

So what's on offer in Bourgas? Here's what you need to know:

Where is it?

The city of Bourgas is located at the southern end of the Bulgarian Black Sea coastline.

This makes it three hours ahead of the UK in summer, and two in winter.

What is it like?

The Bulgarian city is a bustling and business-like place with an ancient heritage, heavily influenced by both Greek and Roman times.

Today, it's Bulgaria's largest port but more importantly for holidaymakers, it's the gateway to the resorts and towns of the Black Sea.

These include Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Dyuni and Elenite.

Unlike the fashion for concrete elsewhere in that part of the world, the city has worked hard to keep its architectural heritage in place, so history buffs will enjoy visiting too.

What is the weather there like?

Being so far south in Europe, the temperatures are pretty warm.

At this time of the year it averages 13C but May sees averages of 22C, June and July the average is 27C, August it's 29C, and even September (25C) and October (20C) are pretty nice.

How long does it take to get there?

It's around 1,500 miles away from the East Midlands and South Derbyshire, therefore the flights will take around three hours and 45 minutes.
