Families are invited to take part in a mother and son or father and daughter dance this weekend to raise money in memory of toddler Isla Elizabeth Hufton.

The Stephanie Parrott School of Dance is set to hold the event to raise funds for a disabled swing in honour of Isla who died aged 18 months. She was born with Mitochondrial DNA Depletion Syndrome, a progressive disease which causes debilitating physical, developmental and cognitive disabilities. The toddler, from Lichfield, died on August 10, 2016, after a long battle with the terminal illness.

Mrs Parrott, who runs the dance school, is inviting both parents and children to take part in a dance on Saturday, July 1, to raise money for a disabled swing in Beacon Park, Lichfield, a place where Isla loved to play.

Mrs Parrott, 46, who teaches Isla’s sister Lily-Grace ballet at the school, told the Burton Mail that it was her who prompted her to hold the charity dance.

The dance school principle said: “Lily-Grace told me she couldn’t get excited about dancing because she’s sad and misses her baby sister. I told her, ‘Isla’s dancing with the angels now sweetheart’.

“We would like to open up this dance to anyone to raise money in memory of Isla Elizabeth. All proceeds raised will go towards building a disabled swing at Beacon Park. She loved to play there.

The dance will take place from 1pm until 2pm at Shobnall Community Centre, in Shobnall Road, Burton. Mrs Parrott, from Tutbury, has asked for a minimum donation of £5 from those interested in taking part in the dance.

The dance class will be a fun-based ballet lesson, and Mrs Parrott is encouraging everyone to come along.
