The family of a keen farmer who died along with his best friend in a motorcycle accident, are holding a seventh charity tractor run to honour his memory. Thomas Pegg died along with James Lambert back in 2010. He was just 17 years old.

His devastated family have held a popular tractor run to pay tribute to him every year since and will hold their seventh annual event on September 10.

His mum Caroline Pegg, of Henhurst Hill, Burton, said Thomas was "big into farming" and it was his uncle who came up with the idea for the tractor rally.

She said: "My son loved tractors but people can come on anything they like, whether that is on a bicycle or in their own cars. We welcome any form of transport, old and new, and we will be doing a long and a short run, stopping halfway for refreshments."

The event, which has raised thousands of pounds in the last six years, is approximately 20 miles long and Mrs Pegg hopes to see at least 50 vehicles join in for charity.

She said: "The proceeds from donations will continue to go to the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution and Youth Emotional Support Services charities, chosen because of the farming connection and for youth because of his young age."

Thomas and fellow rider James Lambert, 24, of Park Lane, Tutbury, were killed on the B5016 between Barton and Yoxall on August 15, 2010.

Mrs Pegg said that she was "overwhelmed" with the support for the event. She said: "It is really comforting that people still want this to go ahead. It is emotional doing it. It still hurts to this day.

"It is so lovely though; because it is for charity it does help. We try to get through it by doing it in his memory.”

The run starts at 10am, on Sunday, September 10, from the National Forest Adventure Farm, in Tatenhill. The route will take in villages such as Anslow, Tutbury, Newborough, Hoar Cross, Yoxall and Barton under Needwood.

Later that same day the Bell Inn pub, in Anslow, will stage a charity auction from 7pm.

Mrs Pegg said: "He worked at the Bell Inn pub, where to this very day a tractor for Thomas and a motorbike for James sit on the shelf in their memory. There will be no cost for the auction, we just ask that people make a donation if possible."
