A strong earthquake that hit the Greek island of Kos has killed at least two people, according to officials.

The 6.7-magnitude quake hit the Aegean Sea, just 12km from the popular holiday destination. At least 20 more people have been injured in the quake, with some buildings being damaged.

The earthquake hit 1.31am on Friday morning, or 10.31pm on Thursday for us in the UK.

Greek police have said that a roof of a bar on the island has collapsed and a ferry has been unable to dock due to damage at the harbour.

A look at the roads

The roads are looking much busier than usual this morning, so make sure you take that into consideration and leave extra time for your journey.

An earlier accident on the A38 is still causing problems for motorists near Ripley. A car hit a lorry in the early hours of the morning and damage was caused to the central reservation. This has now been cleared up and all lanes have re-opened but traffic is still backlogged.

Slow traffic has been reported on the A50 close to East Midlands Airport at the M1 junction 24, but no details have emerged as to what has caused the build up.

Usual suspect, the A52 at Brian Clough Way in Derby is also causing problems in the roadworks area on Pentagon Island close to the Vauxhall showroom.

Don’t forget, if you see any incidents on the roads this morning, you can let us know by tweeting @bethpridding or calling 01283 245031.
