Car fire on M1 causes major delays
Drivers are being warned of delays on the M1 southbound near Derby this evening following a dramatic car fire which closed one lane.
Highways England have said that one lane is currently closed between junctions 26 (A610 Nottingham/Eastwood) and 25 (A52 Brian Clough Way Nottingham/Derby). Two lanes were originally closed as a result of the incident.
It is not yet known when the lane will be reopen. Traffic management company Inrix said there is currently “heavy traffic” between the junctions.
Report of police chase in Burton after vehicle fails to stop for officer
Staffordshire Police were involved in a chase with a vehicle earlier this evening after it failed to stop for officers in Burton.
The vehicle has not been located and no-one has been arrested.

Sudbury absconder finally caught after 22 years on the run
A 57-year-old man who is accused of absconding from a Derbyshire open prison back in 1995 has been arrested at a Channel Tunnel site in France.
Michael John Ashworth, was arrested by British officers in Coquelles as he attempted to board a Eurotunnel train heading to the UK on Sunday, Kent Police said.

Chaos at Pirelli Island as roadworks block lane off
Motorists using the Pirelli Island in Burton are being warned of delays and tailbacks, which are leading all the way back to Wetmore Road. Cones in place on the roundabout are causing havoc as one lane is blocked and another is in use around the island, which is causing disruption at all entrances and exits of the roundabout.
Terrified staff at Rosliston store speak out after third armed robbery in three days
Terrified staff at a South Derbyshire convenience store have spoken of the moment they were threatened with by a masked robber brandishing a large knife in what was the third raid in the area in just three days.
Staff at the Tamworth Co-operative store, in Main Street, Rosliston, were robbed by a man who demanded cash while wielding a knife at one of their busiest times of the week, on Saturday, August 19.
A spokesman for the store has today described the incident as “a very serious and deplorable incident”, saying that staff were “understandably very distressed and shaken”.

An incident on the A511 for Horninglow is causing major delays in both directions and congestion to the A5121 Derby Road
Sighting of South Derbyshire's very own mystery reptile living in the waters at Midway Ponds
A Swadlincote dad was stunned when he came face to face with a large terrapin which is living in the waters at Midway Ponds.
Jon Mcewan, 37, enjoys taking his three-year-old son, Macauley and his half-brother, Bradley, six, to the ponds to feed the ducks, which they have done for a number of years.
Production team worker Mr Mcewan, who works at KP Snacks, in Ashby, had heard form a neighbour that there was a terrapin living in the ponds for the past two years. However, as he had not seen it before, he thought the tale was just a tall story, but had always kept an eye out for the creature - just in case the tale was true.

Drivers are being warned of delays on the A50 Westbound after a broken down lorry left one lane blocked. The incident happened near the B5030 at Ashbourne Road near to the Little Chef roundabout.
Man, 20, admits dealing cocaine, heroin and cannabis in Burton
A 20-year-old man has admitted drug dealing in Burton. Zakeeb Moore, of Meredith Close, Burton, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ court to admit a series of drug supply charges.
He indicated a plea of guilty to possession of 3.53 grams of crack cocaine, of 2.85 grams of heroin, and of 3.474 grams of cannabis, all with intent to supply in Burton.
Moore also admitted taking a Volkswagen Golf without the owner’s consent and driving that vehicle in Watson Street, Burton, without insurance.

There are up to delays of 20 minutes on East Midlands Trains between Derby and Loughborough and between Derby and Nottingham due to a passenger illness at Long Eaton.

Delays of up to 25 minutes in Ashby due to a broken down lorry
Commuters could face delays of up to 25 minutes due to a broken down lorry on the A511 eastbound at Ashby.
The road is partially blocked between the B5006 Derby Road and A512 Ashby Road and traffic is moving very slowly.
Traffic cones causing delays at Pirelli Stadium roundabout
Traffic cones have been placed around the roundabout by Pirelli Stadium.
The cones, which have closed off one lane, are causing delays for motorists in the area.
Slow traffic due to one lane closure on M1 Southbound
A broken down car is causing delays on the M1 southbound.
Delays are expected at junction 29 at the A617 and A6175 at Chesterfield and Mansfield due to one lane closure.
Plans to accommodate 500 more pupils at an Etwall school would cause major traffic problems, residents leaving nearby have said. Read more here.

It’s set to be cloudy and damp this morning as early risers kick-start their day on Monday, August 21.
The cloud is due to lift and thin out as we progress into the afternoon, allowing for bright spells where it will feel warm and humid.

Very slow traffic towards East Midlands Airport
Traffic information website Inrix is reporting that there is very slow traffic on the M1 Southbound between J25 A52 Brian Clough Way and J24A A50 for East Midlands Airport due to road works.
Travel time is around 20 minutes.
