Man charged with arson over police car fire in Overseal

A man has been charged with setting fire to a police car in Overseal.

Mark Wilkinson, 30, of Granville Street, Woodville, has been charged with arson and was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today, Wednesday, November 8.

Man charged with manslaughter over the death of Burton YMCA volunteer

A Stretton man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a former YMCA volunteer.

Martin Hayday, 42, of Main Street, in the village, has been charged with the manslaughter of Francis Lovelock, police have confirmed.

Motorcyclist taken to hospital after crash on A511 in Bretby last night

A woman motorcyclist was taken to hospital after she was involved in a crash with a car, close to Bretby Business Park in the evening rush-hour.

The incident happened on the A511 Ashby Road eastbound at around 5.30pm in the rush-hour traffic on Wednesday, November 8.

Traffic on M1 after accident

More traffic has been reported on the M1 northbound after a second accident on the road this morning.

Traffic information website Inrix has reported that one lane has been closed on the exit slip road at junction 24 for East Midlands Airport.

Meanwhile, an accident on the same road between junction 23a and 24 has now been cleared.

Slow traffic has been reported on the M1 northbound after an accident.

The accident, believed to involve two white vans, happened at around 9.30am

One lane has been closed while the incident is being dealt with.

It is not known if anybody has been injured in the incident.

Update on A38 delays

Traffic information website Inrix reports that traffic is heavier than normal on the A38 northbound between the A513 turn off for Alrewas and Tamworth and the B5016 turn off for Barton and Walton.

It says that the delays are causing problems for motorists heading into Burton.

Reports of gridlock on A38 due to broken down vehicle

There are reports coming in of slow traffic on the A38 from Branston heading into Burton.

It is believed that the delays have been caused by a broken down vehicle in the inside lane of the carriageway.

J Major, of Castle Hayes Park Farm, in Castle Hayes Lane, Tutbury, blames inefficient egg production unit machinery as the reason for wanting to change the use of buildings to storage.

Warmer conditions expected after a chilly start

After a chilly night, it looks like temperatures are set to rise this morning, Wednesday, November 8.

A thin layer of frost has covered the roads early this morning, after temperatures plummeted to -1C overnight, but it won’t stay chilly for long, says the Met Office.

On the roads...

There are no reports of any major incidents causing problems this morning, but the usual traffic is still causing delays.

The A444 Stapenhill Road and A511 Ashby Road are looking busy, due to St Peter’s Bridge being closed - but it will be opening soon!

Meanwhile, very slow traffic has been reported in Woodville on the A511 Burton Road in the roadworks area.

Further afield, there is queuing traffic on the A50 Derby Southern Bypass eastbound at junction 24A for the M1, close to East Midlands Airport.
